We recently finished a house in Calabasas California that was in the French style with a modern twist. The great thing about French style is how it incorporates the traditional and new style to create an elegant and chic home. Here is how we incorporated old and new into this French Modern house design.

French Style Architecture

First, the French architecture of this home is seen in the high-pitched roofs, brick finish, and multi-paned windows. The architecture’s traditional features are charming and elegant. This style of architecture works seamlessly into the green lush landscape that it was built on. Our goal for this home was to make it feel as if you were visiting the French countryside.

French Style Interior

Starting with the kitchen we went with a black and white aesthetic. The black and white bring the chic and classic feeling to space. Additionally, the French style always needs a chandelier for lighting. We chose this elegant chandelier to be the focal point of the space. Next to the home office space, we chose to use a toile print wallpaper. Toile is essential to the French interior aesthetic. The black and white toile wallpaper present a classic and traditional style.

French Gardens

Since this home is located in Southern California it was important to have functional outdoor living spaces. The weather stays fairly warm all year round. To keep the French and traditional style throughout the landscape we incorporated the brick, limestone pillars, and geometric shrubbery. The grass courtyard areas around the house are meant to feel like a classic French garden.
